Eugene Clark - Visiting Artist : The Residency begins with Eugene presenting the career of being an artist and emphasizing the importance of the artist within the working world, and will discuss how artists are needed to design everything from automobiles to fashion to architecture and more! Eugene will share his personal background as a visual artist living and working in Detroit and New York City, as well as his experience as an art educator for the past 15 years. Artists like Picasso, Van Gogh, Michelangelo and others will be introduced and given a background history. Slides will be shown of these artists, as well as some of Eugene’s students work from the College for Creative Studies, Detroit. ( This program will include some audience participation and plenty of visuals.)
Figure/Anatomy Drawing Residency: This hands on part of the program may take place in an art room. Students will enjoy drawing along with Eugene, learning a step by step procedure for drawing the human anatomy as it pertains to the figure drawing. Drawings of Van Gogh, Rembrandt, and others will be discussed. Each student will receive a detailed handout with illustrations showing all of the information covered in the workshop. A model will be provided to give the students an opportunity to draw a portrait from life. Teachers may expand on this subject
within their classroom, following this workshop.
About the Presenter:
Eugene Clark received his BFA in Drawing and Painting from the College for Creative Studies, Detroit, MI. He received his MFA in Drawing and Painting from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, with post-graduate study in printmaking at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfiled Hills, MI. For the past 12 years he has taught drawing and painting at hundreds of high schools throughout Michigan and Ohio. He currently teaches drawing at the College for Creative Studies, Detroit, MI, and Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, Birmingham, MI.
